Waldorf Astoria Park City

The Waldorf Astoria Park City is a luxurious ski resort in Park City, Utah. It’s well known for its modern take on the classic mountain lodge aesthetic and world-class amenities. In this blog post, we’ll review the hotel and its amenities and offer tips for making the most of your stay. Read on to learn more!

We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Park City for Christmas vacation during a trip to Park City.

Park City is a vast ski destination, especially around Christmas and New Year’s. We booked this trip as part of a nonskiing Christmas vacation. For more ideas, check out the top winter things to do in Park City with kids besides skiing.

Getting There

Salt Lake City Airport (SLC) is the closest major airport to Park City, and Waldorf Astoria Park City is about 40 minutes away.

There is no complimentary airport shuttle, but they will set one up for you if you ask. The shuttle runs regularly downtown for shopping and restaurants. Uber/Lyft are available starting at around $50 each way.

There are also restaurants nearby in Canyons Village that are accessible by gondola.

Hotel & Room

The 1-bedroom suite is an excellent option for a family of 4. It includes a regular king-size hotel room connected to the main living area. The main living room has a sofa sleeper (very comfortable), a dining table, a gas fireplace, and a balcony. The full-sized kitchen has a fridge, microwave, gas stove, espresso maker, and all the dishes, pots, pans, etc. A hallway has another bathroom (2 total) and a washer/dryer.

Pool & hot tubs

This was our kid’s favorite part of the stay and something we used (or tried to use) every day of our stay. The Waldorf Astoria Park City pool/hot tub area is in the center section of the hotel, with half the rooms overlooking the area.

There is a large pool two large hot tubs, and heated pavement areas around the pool to keep ice and snow from sticking. It is a nice-looking area covered with snow, with a stream coming off the heated pool.

The pool is supposed to be heated to 89 degrees all winter, and we were looking forward to using it, but it was much colder than that. Our kids tested it several times daily when we walked by, waiting for it to warm up. We only saw a few other people in it during our stay, all kids, and not for very long.

There were issues with the leading hot tub during most of our stay; it only worked intermittently for one day. We would have used the pool and hot tubs much more if we had been able to.

Restaurants & Services

Restaurant

We only ate at the Waldorf Astoria Park City’s Powder restaurant one morning for breakfast. The hotel offers Diamond members $15 per person for two people as a breakfast credit. Because we had a full kitchen, we ate breakfast in our room most mornings.

You can take the gondola across the street to the Canyons village, which has several restaurants. The shuttle will drop you off around 5th and Main Street in downtown Park City, 10-15 minutes away. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes starting late afternoon.

Valet

The valet did a great job; they were always there and quick to bring up the car. Someone was always at the front door to open it or help with the luggage.

Christmas

For Christmas, there was a table in the lobby where kids could write letters to Santa. Our kids did this, and on Christmas Eve, someone from the hotel returned Santa’s reply to them, including some candy.

Smores

There were also smores kits at the front desk that you could get and cook at one of the gas fire pits around the hotel.

Waldorf Astoria Park City Sledding

Sledding

There is a golf course/construction area across the street with some small hills, and after a couple of days, we noticed a stack of sleds by the valet area. We were able to borrow these and go sledding.

Areas for improvement

On the negative side, the pool temperature could be much warmer in the winter. And the hot tub had issues for most of our stay. However, there were also a few times when the service wasn’t what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel.

For instance, we called guest services to ask about a kitchen utensil at one point and never received it, then called for ice and never received it. Another time, we called valet for the car, and the valet was waiting outside but hadn’t gotten the message about the car. Someone else’s luggage arrived at our room around 9 p.m. one night.

These were all pretty minor things. However, for the price of this hotel, things should run pretty smoothly.

Conclusion

We had a great stay here! Every employee we met was friendly and helpful, even though the message didn’t always reach the right person. We always try to visit somewhere new but would return to the Waldorf Astoria Park City if possible.
