As you step into St. Augustine, the first thing that might catch your eye is the majestic Castillo de San Marcos. This fort is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States and stood strong against numerous attacks throughout its history. Here, you can explore historical exhibits about the Timucua Native American tribe who lived in the area long before the Spanish arrived and the Spanish explorers who landed in 1513. Drink from the spring that legend claims rejuvenates those who sip its waters and stroll through the beautiful grounds home to free-roaming peacocks.

You can also visit the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, climb to the top for a panoramic view of the city, and learn about the area’s rich maritime history. The museum showcases artifacts from centuries-old shipwrecks and tells the stories of the lighthouse keepers who lit the beacon for mariners at sea.

No trip to St. Augustine would be complete without visiting St. George Street, a picturesque pedestrian-only thoroughfare with historic buildings, unique shops, and delightful restaurants. It’s a perfect place to enjoy local cuisine, pick up a souvenir, and immerse yourself in the city’s lively atmosphere.
